THINK BEFORE YOU INK: 5 PARTS OF THE BODY WHERE YOUR TATTOO IS MOST LIKELY TO FADE

Tattoos are becoming more popular by the minute. A lot of clients that inquire to get tattooed here at Ink Gallery, get their inspiration from their favorite celebrities that show off their new ink on Instagram. The only thing is, a lot of times you aren’t able to see what that tattoo healed like which is most important. Getting inked on an area that doesn’t hold ink well can be very costly and painful overtime. If you want to keep your ink as fresh as possible for as long as possible, here are some places you might want to avoid getting tattooed:

FINGERS:

These tattoos in particular are super popular. Stars like Rihanna and Hailey Bieber influence a lot of young women to get similar finger tattoos to them. Our hands get more action than any other part of our body, especially during this pandemic. Constantly washing and sanitizing our hands mixed with the unavoidable rubbing of our fingers together in everyday life make fading of finger and hand tattoos inevitable. A lot of tattoo parlors refuse finger tattoos because they know they will most likely have to go over them more than once overtime.

PALM:

Thinking of getting a highly detailed color tattoo on the palm? Think again. This area is one of the most sensitive parts of the body making it very painful. On top of that, it also doesn’t hold ink well. The skin on the palm of your hand has a faster re-growth rate than the rest of your body making it fade quicker. If you insist on getting a palm tattoo, a word of advice we have is to keep the design simple and bold so if it does need a touch up it can be easily done.

FEET:

Shoes and socks are always rubbing against our feet as we go about our day. This constant movement can not only disrupt the healing process but can overtime fade your tattoo. Especially if you’re going for the daintier look and want it on the inner/outer part of your foot where the sock rubs the most. Really want a foot tattoo? Try placing it more towards the top of the foot rather than the sides or bottom.

INNER LIP:

These tattoos have a life expectancy of 1-5 years. Similar to the palm, fading is mostly because of the rapid regeneration of mucosal cells that line the area. Constant shedding and regenerating skin results in the ink pushing out faster than your normal tattoo. This tattoo can be cool to show off to your friends right after you get it, but we can assure you, you won’t be showing it off in a few years.

OUTER ELBOW:

This area is not only one of the most painful places to get a tattoo, but the healing process can also be just as annoying. We often lean on our elbows whether we’re sitting at a desk or driving. That combined with the constant stretching of the skin from bending our arms can disrupt the healing and result in a necessary touch up. It takes a special kind of person to sit through this pain twice. There’s a reason the elbow is known as the “swellbow”.

Of course at the end of the day your ink is your choice. Tattoos are all about artistic expressions of yourself on your body. We are just here to guide you and make your experience as easy as possible. No matter what tattoo you’re getting wherever you choose to get it, always be sure it’s something you definitely want. Whether it easily fades or not, there will be ink on your body for the rest of your life. So think twice and when you’re ready, we’ll be here to bring your vision to your skin!
